Getting started

How do I get started with therapy at Ladder of Hope?

Call (860) 930-0236, email ladderofhopellc@gmail.com, or use the contact form. Sarah offers a free phone consultation to hear what is going on, answer your questions, and make sure it is a good fit before you book a first session.

Where is the office?

Ladder of Hope is located at 121 Fenn Road, Suite A, Newington, CT 06111, minutes from West Hartford, Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, New Britain and Berlin, with free parking.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. Sarah provides secure video sessions to clients anywhere in Connecticut, including EMDR, Brainspotting and ART. Many clients combine in-person and virtual care.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes. Daytime and evening appointments are available. Reach out for current availability.

Who do you work with?

Adolescents (roughly 12 and up), young adults, and adults. Sarah's specialties are trauma and PTSD, anxiety and panic, and the school, behavioral and emotional concerns of teens and young adults.

Approach

What is your therapeutic approach?

Sarah uses brain-based modalities, primarily EMDR, Brainspotting and Accelerated Resolution Therapy, to address the roots of trauma and negative thinking, alongside cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness and motivational interviewing. She often incorporates humor as a way to connect.

EMDR, Brainspotting or ART: how do I choose?

You do not have to choose in advance. In the first sessions Sarah will explain each approach, consider your history and nervous system, and recommend where to start. Many clients use more than one over the course of treatment.

Will I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. All three of Sarah's core modalities work with minimal narration. You share what you choose, and the processing happens largely without words.

What are your credentials?

Sarah Livingston is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Connecticut #58.007952), a certified school social worker in Connecticut, and an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist. She holds an MSW from Southern Connecticut State University (2006), has practiced independently since 2012, and has completed extensive post-graduate training in ART and Brainspotting.

What is a therapy intensive?

An intensive condenses EMDR, Brainspotting or ART into extended sessions over one, two or three days, for people who want faster, deeper progress than weekly therapy allows. Intensives are private-pay; see the intensives page for formats and pricing.

Cost & insurance

Which insurance plans do you accept?

Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, ConnectiCare, HUSKY Health / Medicaid, Oxford and United Healthcare / United Behavioral Health, among others. Coverage varies by plan; Sarah verifies benefits before your first session.

What is covered by insurance and what is not?

Standard sessions of 45-60 minutes are covered by insurance. Intensives and extended sessions are private-pay and are not covered by insurance.

How much does an intensive cost?

A 1-day intensive is $1,300. A 2-day full-day intensive is $2,200. A 3-day half-day intensive is $2,600. Each includes an 80-minute intake and a 45-minute post-intensive follow-up.

Do you offer extended sessions?

Yes. Extended sessions for EMDR, ART and Brainspotting are available outside of insurance. Please inquire about pricing and availability.

Sessions & logistics

How long are sessions?

Standard sessions run 45 minutes to one hour. Extended sessions and intensive blocks run longer.

How often will we meet?

Most clients start weekly. Some move to biweekly as things stabilize; others choose an intensive to move faster. It is tailored to you.

Do you have a client portal?

Yes. Existing clients can sign in to the secure client portal to manage appointments, paperwork and video sessions.

What if I am in crisis?
